Do I need to disconnect the battery before checking the alternator?

No, alternator testing is done with the battery connected and the engine running. Only disconnect the battery for removal and replacement.

How long does it take to install a car battery myself?

Most Australian passenger vehicles and 4WDs take 20 to 30 minutes for a first timer, faster once you have done it once.

Will I lose my radio presets and clock settings?

Possibly, unless you use a memory saver plugged into the 12V accessory socket or OBD port during the swap. Most modern cars relearn idle settings within a few minutes of driving after a battery change.

Is it safe to install a sodium ion battery myself the same way as lead acid?

Yes. SaltyCells sodium ion batteries use the same terminal layout and case dimensions as the equivalent lead acid group size, so the installation process is identical. There is no special wiring or BMS setup required.

What torque should I use on the terminal clamps?

Most vehicles need the clamp nut hand tight plus a quarter turn with a spanner, roughly 4 to 6 Nm. Overtightening can crack the terminal post, particularly on sealed AGM and sodium ion cases.
