What group size battery does a Subaru Outback take?

It depends on engine and year. Australian spec 2.5 litre Outbacks generally use a D23 class case, while 3.6 litre Outbacks step up to a D26 class case with higher CCA and reserve capacity. Check your current battery's label to confirm before ordering a replacement.

Can I upgrade my Outback's battery to a higher CCA than factory spec?

Generally yes, provided the case fits your tray and the terminal polarity matches. A higher CCA rating within the same physical case size will not damage your Outback's charging system.

How long should a Subaru Outback battery last in Australia?

A factory lead acid or AGM battery typically lasts 2 to 4 years in Australian conditions, with hot climates on the shorter end of that range due to heat driven degradation. Sodium ion batteries are designed to outlast that by a wide margin thanks to their higher cycle life and heat tolerance.

Is a sodium ion battery a drop in replacement for my Outback's AGM battery?

Sodium ion batteries are designed as drop in replacements for the same voltage and physical case sizes used across lead acid and AGM applications. For your specific Outback, confirm the case size and terminal layout with SaltyCells before ordering, since exact factory fitment for this model has not yet been confirmed on our range.

Do I need to reprogram anything after fitting a new battery in an Outback?

Some newer Subaru models with idle stop or advanced battery monitoring may need a battery reset or relearn procedure after replacement. Check your owner's handbook, and if in doubt, have the replacement carried out by a qualified installer.
