What CCA do I need for a Nissan Patrol?

The GU Y61 diesel wants 750 to 770 CCA. The Y62 V8 petrol is comfortable from 700 CCA but benefits from 800 plus if you run accessories like a winch, driving lights or a fridge off the main battery without a dual battery system.

Does the Patrol need an AGM battery?

Not by default. Neither the GU nor the Y62 ships from the factory with idle stop start technology in Australia, so a standard flooded, EFB or sodium ion battery in the correct size and CCA range will work, unlike a Ranger or Everest with stop start fitted. If you have added a dual battery or DC to DC charging system, check that system's specific battery type requirements before choosing.

What size battery does a Nissan Patrol take?

Both the GU Y61 and Y62 take an N70 class battery, GU models typically labelled N70ZZ or N70ZZL, Y62 models simply N70. Confirm your exact code from the label on your current battery before ordering.

How long does a Patrol battery last in Australia?

Standard lead acid batteries in this size class typically last 2 to 4 years in normal use, often closer to 18 months to 2 years on a heavily accessorised touring Patrol running a fridge, winch and auxiliary lighting. Sodium ion batteries are rated for 3,000 plus cycles, translating to a substantially longer service life under the same accessory load.

Will a sodium ion battery handle corrugations, heat and remote touring?

Yes, on the chemistry and construction side. Salty Cells batteries are discharge rated from minus 30°C to 70°C and built to withstand the vibration that shakes conventional flooded plates loose over corrugated tracks. Installation follows our standard installation guide, and dual battery system compatibility should still be confirmed with us directly beforehand.
